*content warning: this message discusses suicide*

Sunday 29th October 2023.
Suicide First Aid Suicide Prevention Training (Lite) with @jessicahulton from @tnnhongkong.

Apart from being the day after the night of the RWC finals for the rugby fans, on Sunday 29th October we collaborated with @phenomenally.pink to run our first English language mental health training.

We learned that 15 people are emotionally injured when someone dies by suicide, a further 135 are impacted, whilst social ripples will affect many many more. With this in mind Jess guided us through this important topic with compassion and kindness.

It is important for us to support others by challenging stigma and myths surrounding suicide, amongst these we discovered:

“People experiencing thoughts of suicide want to die “ - Most do not want to die but want the current situation they are in/emotional pain to stop

“Talking about suicide is a bad idea as it might give someone the idea to try it” - Evidence shows asking someone if they're thinking about suicide can protect them. They feel listened to, and hopefully less trapped. Their feelings are validated, and they know that somebody cares about them. Reaching out can save a life.

What is one thing you could do to feel a little more prepared to help someone?
